It's summer, my friends!

  • Mood: Lazy
:bulletblue: Yup. Kinda like how ~Alpha-Dee mentioned in his journal today, I too just finished 9th grade and elementary school! WHOOOO! (Except that MY grade point average was 8,6! :P Sucker..)
Next August, I should be starting study at a Senior High, the location of which is yet unknown as I haven't gotten the results of my entrance exams yet. BUT BEFORE ALL OF THAT:

---- 2½ months of summer :) ----

:bulletblue: This week has been pretty awesome. Since it was our last week, the teachers didn't care a rat's ass about how we spent our time OR if we even spent it at school. I spent Tuesday bathing in the sun and swimming at the local pool, Wednesday playing football in the rain (although that was actually part of school) and Friday I left halfway through the day and went to my friend's house to play Skate 2.
:bulletblue: My parents also got me Coheed and Cambria's live DVD (which features 4 nights, where they play their entire production). It's awesome. Been watching that lately.

:bulletblue: Lastly, I don't know much about my summer plans yet, but seeing as I'll be too lazy to write another jounal, I'll probably be running after my parents all summer as we go back and forth between our summer cottage and England. Neither of them, for some strange reason, have an internet conncetion, so I won't be around as much; Hell, I might not be around all summer!

See you guys around! I'm going exploring!

Get ready for 10th grade, for me it was the easiest year of my life. So many classes were simple so I felt like I was in kindergarten again just playing again.

Oh, we don't really go to 10th grade at all. See, once you've studied through the 9 years of mandatory elementary school. After that you go to the "so-called" 1st grade of Senior High (or polytechnic). There is a 10th grade available, but that's only if you don't want to go to higher systemsyet, but want to relearn everything, so you'll have it easier later.

'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
'Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: 'We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.'
'How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
'You must be,' said the Cat. 'Or you wouldn't have come here.'

Oh, everywhere but the US just has to have things like 3rd Senior High and stuff which is equivalent to our 12th grade Senior level.

I have to say I don't know much about educaton systems in the US. All I know is that you have a whacky way to getting things like professor's papers and whatnot.

I have no idea how Finnish grades work. 8,6? Is that good or horrible, or what? Here in the States, we get letter grades and percentages. They make sense, though our numbered GPA system takes some getting used to.
Happy summer, though. You're lucky all your classes are over. I've still got a few more weeks, and a big presentation worth nearly all of my grade, and a book to finish, and a bunch of other crazy stuff. But the end of the year is filled with some fun, happy stuff too. I said the word stuff too much, didn't I?!
But wait. You won't be here all summer? Who will entertain me?
Summer is when I can check my messages most frequently, though, so I might catch you while you're still in a place with internet, hopefully. Have fun, though, with life and all.

Actually, closer inspection revealed my grade average to be at 8,8! Okay, in Finland, our grades span from 4 to 10, eight being the "norm" - how you SHOULD do. Most people have their average at a bit over eight (8,1 or so..).
Only people of a superhuman level will get anything over a nine for their average. A nine for a grade means you did a praiseworthy job at studying (and a ten means you did it perfectly, to boot!). Imagine having to do a near perfect job in everything for three whole years.. So, if you think about it, my 8,8 is pretty darn good for someone like me, who's goal in life is to see how far one can get without actually doing any work.

Don't worry, I'll try to pop by every once in a while; Maybe once a week or so. I'm just saying that I won't be here nearly 24/7 as I am right now! :D
I hope you have a great sumer as well!

Sweetness! 8,8 is almost 9, which is superhuman. Cool!
Wait. 4 to 10? Why couldn't they just do 1 to 6, or something? WHY MUST IT START ON FOUR AND CONFUSE ME FURTHER?! Really. Is there a purpose to that?

If an 8 is what you SHOULD do, is it really what you should do, or should you do more? Here, we have letter grades from A to F. Technically speaking, getting a C is what you SHOULD do, as it's the minimum passing grade, but being a C student is not a good thing at all.

Whew! I'm glad to hear you'll still be around.
Thanks.

So, I'm almost superhuman! \o/ I have no idea why it's 4 to 10. I think it's kinda natural that way, although ofcourse I'll hink it's natural, since I grew up with it. I FIND YOUR LETTERS MORE CONFUSING!

An 8 means the level of a normal kid, I guess. Meaning that they've done what they were supposed to do, without doing any extra. Our minimum passing grade is a 5.

I guess if one were to do everything, but nothing more than what one was supposed to do, in our American system, one would probably get a B, maybe a B- if the teacher was a hard grader. But teachers always claim that, if you don't go above and beyond, you'll get a C because that's "average." So it really doesn't make much sense because different parts of the educational system choose to mess with your mind in different ways.

A 5? That's only one higher than a 4...
